HRSA today

Our Organization has been focused on children mainly from poor families. Such families can not support their children to study in commercial schools. Most of the families are farmers.

Our school is currently located in Central Pagoda of Stung Treng and consists of
  • 1 classroom for teaching computers (MS Office and Internet),
  • 3 classrooms for education in the English language.
Currently we have about 200 students in English classes and 50 students learning computers. Considering the fact that Stung Treng has slightly above 20,000 citizens we view the number of students as a success.

Our teaching personnel consist mostly of students of other schools, who are allowed to live within Pagoda at near zero cost or students of University BBU. They are also receiving stipend of about 10 to 20 USD/month. Some of the teachers also work for free. Unfortunately, such terms often becomes unattractive to them, so sooner or later they are leaving to more attractive schools/opportunities, therefore damaging the teaching capabilities of the organization. Usually the most skilled teachers leave first. In January 2011 we were forced to close one class, while 2 classes were joined to other classes because of the reasons written above.

On the end of 2010 our budget was in deficit 200 USD/month, so we were also forced to ask student to pay 3000 Riels/month (0.75 USD/month) in order to balance the budget.

Prospects

Since we have little or no support from government and we are not commercial based school, I hereby ask you to consider supporting us in the form of funds and/or IT support, like unused laptops which can still be used:

  • providing a laptop to teacher is factor of motivation him to work within our Organization; the teacher can also bring listening to sounds into his classroom, therefore improve teaching (pronunciation);
  • any financial support, which can be used as a stipend to teachers is highly desired ($10-$20/month makes a difference for the teacher);
  • we still have yet one classroom to open, but first we need to collect about 2000 USD so furniture (tables, seats) can be brought into class,
  • any volunteer wishing to teach English is welcome.

Thank you in advance for considering any form of help you can afford
